Windows 10 VirtualBox Host

I am sick of Microsoft bugging me to upgrade to Windows 10! Finally capitulated with reservations that VirtualBox would not work afterwards. Sure enough the guest will not load. Upgraded to VirtualBox 5 (actually supports Windows 10) but still got errors related to the bridged network. In the host settings I cannot choose an adapter  name. After much searching, I found this to be the most helpful suggestion.

Here are the tweaked instructions:

  1. Install normally (VirtualBox-5.0.10-104061-Win.exe)
  2. Reboot
  3. Manually install bridged networking drivers C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\network\netlwf\VBoxNetLwf.inf (right click, select install)
  4. Open Network Connections
  5. Right-Click on your Ethernet adapter and select “Properties”
  6. Click “Install”
  7. Select “Service”
  8. Select Virtual Box NDIS6 Bridged Network Driver
  9. Select OK.
